Handy person scheme

What does it do?

All jobs must either reduce the risk of a fall or help you remain living independently in your home.


We can carry out essential minor adaptations that help you move around your home and stay steady on your feet. These include:

  • grab rails
  • second stair rails
  • half-steps
  • exterior hand rails.

'Handy person' jobs

These are small practical jobs that help you stay living safely at home. These include:

  • fixing curtain rails
  • putting up shelves
  • fixing tripping hazards such as loose carpets.

Who it is for?

HPAS is available to people living in Nottinghamshire (except the City of Nottingham) who are either:

  • aged 60 or over
  • disabled.

Where it is available?

Local service (Gedling, Mansfield, Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Newark and Sherwood, Rushcliffe).

What it costs:


The basic charge for adaptation work is £15. You can have up to £250 worth of adaptations supplied and fitted in a single job.

Handy person jobs

The basic charge for handy person jobs is £15. You need to supply all materials for the job. If you have difficulty getting what's needed you may be able to arrange to give money to the person doing the work so they can buy the materials for you.
