Community Meals on Wheels

What does it do?

We deliver a hot meal around midday, Monday to Friday, which is ready to eat straight away. If required, at the same time we can deliver a tea meal which will be a sandwich/salad with cake/biscuits for later in the day.

Most diets can be accommodated eg:
- diabetic
- vegetarian
- low fat
- gluten free.

Any particular dislikes can also be removed from your personal menu, however, an eight week menu cycle ensures a broad range of varied meals.

Who it is for?

For anyone having difficulties preparing their own food. If you are elderly, struggling to cope or have a short or long term illness you are eligible to receive this service.

Where it is available?

Local service (North Somerset).

What it costs:

Costs (from 6 April 2010) are as follows:
- Hot meal including pudding £3.50
- Tea meal £2.70

Payment can be made to our drivers on a daily basis with cash or weekly, preferably by cheque. In certain circumstances accounts can be arranged and will be invoiced monthly.

How to access or apply for it:

For further information contact our Meals on Wheels Team on Tel. 01275 882 155

What to expect then:

An important part of our service is our 'welfare check'.

Our driver will encourage you to eat and can assist by fetching cutlery, removing lids and cutting up meals. We will also check that you are comfortable and that you are secure.

This welfare check is always made when our driver calls and any concerns will be passed back to our office. We will decide whether to contact family or in an emergency your doctor/ambulance, giving everyone peace of mind.
