Access to Benefits

Benefits Assessments for older people

What does it do?

The Access to Benefits service supports older people within the Preston and South Ribble areas.

Our officers will work with you, in your own home or at one of our premises to assess what benefits you are currently on, clearly explain what benefits you might be eligible for and how to apply for them.

From 3rd April 2017, there will be one off *fee of £5 for the initial benefit assessment in your home or at one of our premises, further visits will not be charged. If eligible, we will order the form(s) on your behalf which you can then complete yourself, or use family or friends. If you ask us to check or complete the form on your behalf, this has a one off *fee of £10 per person.
*These fees provide a contribution to the cost of providing the officers time, ordering the form(s), completing the form(s), photocopying and postage. This service is not funded other than by Age Concern Central Lancashire.

Whilst we cannot guarantee that each application will be successful or how long each application will take once applied for, in the last twelve months we have had a 97% success rate in successfully gaining benefit awards.

Please note we are not able to help with working age benefits or appeals and recommend you seek the advice of your local advice agency such as Citizens Advice or your benefits advisor.

This small team of staff and volunteers raises an average of £1,000,000 for local older people each year.
