Help at Home service for older people in Cheshire East

What does it do?

Support for families

We are all living for longer which is great news and with the right support, later life could be the time of our lives. All too often, however, families are struggling to cope with the pressures of bringing up children as well as helping older relatives to live as independently as possible.


Help at Home can provide regular contact with older relatives, sorting out the mundane necessities of life so that time spent with family and friends is a joyful and stress-free experience.


Home Helpers are

  • carefully selected, interviewed and checked by the Criminal Records Bureau to ensure your safety
  • reliable, trustworthy and work to high standards
  • specially trained to give an effective service
  • friendly, caring and approachable
  • able to help you gain access to other services

Home Helpers can

  • do a full cleaning job, including floors, windows, kitchens, bathrooms, washing up – whatever you need
  • change your bedding, do the laundry and ironing or put clothes away
  • collect prescriptions, dry cleaning or shopping
  • walk a pet dog or return library books assist with telephone or internet shopping (requires an internet connection)
  • prepare light lunches and check ‘sell-by’ dates on food
  • provide companionship, sharing hobbies and interests
  • assist with bill payments, appointment-making or outing planning

Who it is for?

Older people in East Cheshire  If you are over 50 living in Cheshire East, one of our Home Helpers could make your life so much easier by providing practical assistance with anything from cleaning, through light meal preparation to companionship with the exception of personal care.

Local service (Macclesfield, Crewe and Nantwich).

What Help at Home costs

Help at Home is organised over three levels so you only pay for the help you need to maintain your independence at home.

Level 1 - Cleaning only tasks

Options available within the package

  • Vacuuming
  • Dusting
  • Laundry/Ironing
  • Polishing
  • Mopping floors
  • Cleaning internal windows
  • Changing bed linen
  • Cleaning fridge/cooker
  • Checking food expiry dates in fridge and dry goods

Level 2 

Options available include all in Level 1 plus:

  • Escorted walks to local shop
  • Escorted walks with dog
  • Food shopping in person
  • Telephone/Internet food shopping
  • Dry cleaning collections/drop-offs
  • Library books collections/returns
  • Prescription collection
  • Preparing a light lunch

Level 3 - Companionship service

  • Befriending
  • Reading
  • Playing games – cards/bridge/ scrabble/jigsaws
  • Planning or arranging outings/activities
