Homeshare

Homeshare scheme in Falkirk area

What does it do?

Homeshare is about bringing people in the community together to exchange their resources - the householder provides accommodation and the Homesharer provides their time and skills. This also empowers the Householder, as they are not purely passive recipients of support, they are equal partners in an exchange.
As on organisation, our main aim is the strengthening of communities and Homeshare fits in with this aim perfectly. Homeshare will reduce the isolation of older people and promote the mixing between generations, both of which will have a positive impact on the communities involved.
Loneliness and isolation has been identified as a serious health risk, research shows lacking social connections is a comparable risk factor for early death as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and is worse for us than well-known risk factors such as obesity and physical inactivity and therefore having a live-in companion can have a positive impact on health. It also means that older people can take a more active part in their local community and enhance their lives.

Who it is for?

Homeshare is a programme which puts together "householders" (ie people who have a home which they are willing to share but who are in need of some help and support) and "Homesharers" (people who need low cost accommodation and are willing to offer help).
