Home improvements and energy efficiency

Home Improvement Agency services in Central Bedfordshire

What does it do?

We can provide safety, security and emergency repair assistance  at most times, to help meet the highest priorities.
Home Improvement Assistance can sometimes be available for more significant works such as renewing a worn out roof, or dangerous wiring.

Contractors list
Finding a reliable contractor to carry out building work can be difficult for some people, particularly the vulnerable and the elderly.
We have published a list of contractors. This is not a list of ‘recommended contractors’ and no warranty is offered, or should be implied in respect of the performance of contractors included in this list. However, the contractors on this list have carried out grant work previously for clients and we have checked to ensure that they have the necessary insurances and health and safety policies in place.
If you are considering works to historic buildings then please contact the conservation and design team on 0300 300 8767 to discuss the repairs and seek advice on appropriate specialist building contractors.

Who it is for?

Private sector housing renewal policy
We recognise that some vulnerable homeowners may need help to carry out essential health and safety related works. Our Housing Assistance Policy (PDF 188.2KB)  contains the types of loans and grants that we can provide to help meet priority housing issues. All types of assistance are discretionary and completely dependent upon funding being available.
The two highest priorities within the policy are safety, security of older persons and other vulnerable groups, living within their home, and reducing cases of fuel poverty. When funding is scarce, we will help meet the highest priorities.
