The present almshouses were moved to their site in Green Street in 1868, and renovated in 1977.The Almshouses are intended for Plymothians of good character who are retired and in need. Prospective residents are interviewed by the Trustees to ensure they are elderly and eligible for Housing Benefit. Residents must be able to look after themselves, with the aid of a care package if necessary, as there is no medical care provided.
The current weekly rent charge is £110 per week with a service charge of £30.00 per week to cover fuel costs. Residents do not have to pay water rates and are entitled to a £7.50 per year concessionary TV Licence fee if under 75 yrs of age. The total rent charge qualifies for Housing Benefit, with support costs paid to us direct." Show less
