Hawkinge House is made up of Independent Living properties, including 19 studio apartments, 11 one-bed flats, and one two-bed flat for people 55 and over. The properties are both on the ground floor and the first floor which has lift access.

All properties have modern kitchens with wall and base units. They come equipped with an electric fan oven and hob, and a fridge freezer. The bathrooms have either a walk-in shower cubicle with a seat, or a bath (in the one-beds) together with a wash-hand basin and toilet. The living accomodation includes a large storage cupboard in the hallway. Hawkinge House has a secure keypad entry system to the main entrance door for added security.

At the front entrance there is ample parking for visitors and residents with well-maintained gardens around the perimeter of the building and to the rear entrance where there is also a seated patio area. Communal facilities include a large communal lounge. There is a wide range of social activities for residents to get involved in. There is also a communal kitchen, a laundry, toilets and a guest room. The guest room (two person) can be hired for a small charge for visiting relatives. This includes a twin bedroom with an ensuite shower room with a walk-in shower, and tea making facilities.

There is a good selection of shops, Chesterfield and the local shopping parade on Pennine Way is only a short walk away. There is a local pub, a newsagents, and a bus stop all within five minutes walk. There are also train stations in Chesterfield and the nearby Dronfield.
