Show more "Hopton's Almshouses are a small cluster of stunningly beautiful homes for older people in Bankside, Southwark in central London. Built in 1752 they are a combination of one bedroomed ground floor and first floor flats and cottages. There are extensive and beautiful gardens to enjoy, surrounded by modern high rise buildings close by to the River Thames. It is an extremely busy area, full of city life, and with everything on your doorstep such as cafes and shops, art galleries, riverside, buses and trains.Residents are supported by our Resident Support Manager who is on site daily to help them live more independently and with dignity. With such a small community, residents also help each other out and form strong friendships. The charity's head office is a short distance away, and their management team are on site regularly.
Residents normally have to be 65 years old, and have lived in Southwark for at least three years. They also have to demonstrate a need for social housing and that they have limited means. Instead of rent, residents pay a Weekly Maintenance Contribution of approximately £185 per week (at July 2022), which is eligible for Housing Benefit for those that receive it.
Hopton's Almshouses are old listed buildings, and the pathways and homes may be difficult for people who require completely level and step-free access, or have poor mobility and balance." Show less
