The flats are arranged in groups of four, 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. There is no passenger lift in this block.

The flats comprise a lounge/dining room, kitchen, bedroom and shower room. The flats are cosy and accommodate a single people only. The cottages have a lounge/dining room, with a door to the rear garden and a cloakroom on the ground floor, and kitchen. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a level-access shower. Stairlifts can be fitted in the cottages.

All units are fitted with a door entry system, emergency call alarms and personal pendants for use in emergencies. All flats have heat and smoke detectors and there is a comprehensive fire protection system. There is a launderette for residents’ use and extensive private gardens, which residents are welcome to help maintain.

Gorely House looks east into its own private gardens and west towards Cowgate Cemetery, which is a wildlife sanctuary, and the historic Western Heights. There is very limited parking for private cars within the almshouse complex but there is a convenient public car park in Albany Place.

Gorely House was built with a bequest left by Mrs Susan Gorely of Ladywell, Dover, who died in 1880. The terrace was extended in 1921 with a legacy left by Mr Henry Hobday, the last private owner of Buckland Mill. The properties were extensively refurbished in 2009-2011 incorporating air source heat pumps and solar panels." Show less
