Show more "The opening of Trembaths in 1989, together with Westbury in Newport Pagnell, launched MHA into a new era of care. By offering full nursing care in Letchworth, the organisation was setting out to meet the requirements of an increasing number of older people whose advanced physical and mental needs could not be met by existing MHA facilities. It was the most expensive of MHA’s initiatives to date, with an estimated capital cost of 1.7 million pounds – approximately £53,000 for each of the spaces then available.
In 2003, specialist dementia care was introduced. Through “awareness days”, the Home has shared its knowledge with relatives and the public, explaining the effects of dementia and how special care can improve the quality of life.
As one resident says, “I have lived here for twelve years and there is nowhere I would rather be. I think the staff are a tremendous team and the care and love shown according to our special needs is truly amazing.” Demand is such that plans are underway for a further five places to be offered in 2008."
