The original house and the estate were left to the Church of Scotland Board of Social Responsibility as a bequest from the family of the late George Urie Scott. The original building was built around 1930 with an extension being added by the Church of Scotland prior to opening as a residential home. In 2007 Crossreach (Formerly Board of Social Responsibility) completed a £1.3 million refurbishment to raise the standard of the accommodation to meet the National Standards set by the Scottish Executive."
