By the time MHA took it over, Pennystone Court had already received a five-star RDB rating (a Residential and Domiciliary Benchmarking award) for its effective care services. In April 2000, the Home raised money with the aid of the Princes Trust in order to establish a sensory garden. MHA has since developed a UK-wide initiative to design gardens that offer sensory stimulation for those who choose not to go outside as well as provide a variety of other stimuli for those who do.
“Safe routes encourage residents to make their way through the garden, while the planting provides a variety of experiences through the seasons. Raised beds make vibrant colours and aromas more accessible and plants you’d want to touch are used as well as grasses and bamboos that produce sounds in the wind. Water features not only produce sounds but can also be lit at night.”" Show less
