"Elmside was opened as a Residential Care Home back in 1966. The original house had been sold to MHA by the local Moss family, well-known in Hitchin for its grocery stores.
Hitchin itself is a beautiful old market town close to Stevenage in Hertfordshire. The original Home has now been replaced by a completely new two-storey Home, together with an adjacent Housing with Care Scheme. Opened in 2007, the new Home contains single, fully furnished en suite rooms for 25 people with dementia and 41 residential care places including care suites designed for couples, enabling their differing care needs to be met. Communal areas include a coffee shop, IT suite, library and hairdressing and therapy rooms, all of which can be used by residents in the neighbouring Scheme. "The aim is to develop a real community within the Care Centre,” says the Home Manager, “encouraging residents and their visitors to enjoy all the facilities available."" Show less
