The issue of care and support for the elderly is high on the political agenda. This volume makes a valuable contribution to the debate about how this provision could be funded.

In the chapters that follow, there is thorough analysis of the issues and, in particular, of how the elderly might make use of their property to provide a greater level of income. That money could ensure that they are able to live comfortably in their own homes for many years, perhaps paying for major adaptations to the property and then, as the need arises, providing for a level of help and nursing care in the home. This is a prospect that
many would find far more appealing than having to move out of their home and into residential care.

What is essential is that high quality, trustworthy advice should be available so that individuals can explore their options and make the right decisions to suit their needs.
