The almshouses were built by a local brewer John Henry Fox in 1897 for the benefit of older people. There are 14 almshouses, all built in a cottage style. 13 of the almshouses have one bedroom and the remaining property has two bedrooms. The Hospital of God took over the almshouses in 2008 and has embarked on a programme of improvements, putting in new heating systems, kitchens and bathrooms." Show less
