Show more "The Trustees (who are responsible for the almshouses) simply advertise (in various places around Marshfield) each vacancy separately when it arises. Preference is given to applicants who have lived in the village of Marshfield for 2 years, who are over 40 years of age and who are in housing need.The Almshouses comprise a row of eight small, unfurnished, terraced cottages, with a central chapel, built in 1612 by the Crispe family. There are communal gardens at the back and front. A major refurbishment was completed in 2008 to provide a modern kitchen and bathroom/toilet downstairs. They each have a living room and one bedroom upstairs which has been fitted with an upstairs toilet. A gas condenser boiler in each house provides water and heat to suit the individual resident. There is level access from the kitchen to the back terrace. The maintenance of the property is the responsibility of the Trustees although it is the responsibility of the resident to maintain the internal decoration to a good standard." Show less
